Bat Xat preserves and promotes traditional cultural values
Bat Xat is a mountainous border district of Lao Cai province with many ethnic minorities living with diverse ethnic cultures. This is also a locality that preserves many intangible cultural values. The preservation, exploitation and promotion of these values will actively contribute to promoting the socio-economic development of the locality.The Resolution of the 23rd Bat Xat District Party Congress, term 2020-2025, determined: Developing traditional culture and sports, promoting traditional cultural values associated with improving the material and spiritual life of the people...; "Preserving and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic groups, restoring traditional cultural values, extensively developing cultural and sports movements, mobilizing to reform backward customs associated with building new rural areas".
Attention is paid to the conservation, restoration, management, exploitation and promotion of the value of cultural heritages in the district. The unique cultural features of the ethnic groups in the district are expressed in many other aspects such as: characteristic architecture and unique festivals; rich and diverse culinary culture of each ethnic group; traditional crafts are still preserved and developed.

Regarding intangible culture, Bat Xat is both a source of materials and a main area that has been recognized with a total of 10 national intangible cultural heritages, including: The Dao people's ordination ceremony; Roong Pooc (Going to the Field) festival of the Giay people; Kho Gia Gia (Praying for a Good Harvest) festival of the Black Ha Nhi people; Nom script of the Dao people in Lao Cai province; The art of the Khen dance of the Mong people; Khoi Kim (Forest Worship) festival of the Dao people; Ga Ma Do (Forest Worship) festival of the Ha Nhi people; Then ritual of the Giay people in Bat Xat district; Put Tong (Jumping Festival) festival of the Red Dao people; Folk knowledge in terraced field cultivation of the Ha Nhi people in Bat Xat district. Each festival has its own typical features and contains many beautiful cultural values, imbued with national identity.
The work of reviewing, establishing records to recognize and promote the role of outstanding folk artisans, folk artists, prestigious people in the community, village elders and village chiefs has received attention. Artisans have gradually promoted their core role in preserving, conserving and promoting national cultural identity; are the link connecting traditional elements and national cultural identity with the community, and at the same time enriching cultural heritage values through cultural activities. In the current period, artisans, village elders and prestigious people are an extremely valuable repository of documents, "databases", and key factors in practicing and teaching the cultural identity values of ethnic groups to the younger generation.
The process of settlement and production of the ethnic people of Bat Xat also created magnificent landscapes, such as terraced fields, especially in the communes of Sang Ma Sao, Den Sang, Y Ty, A Lu... This is a typical masterpiece, preserving the folk knowledge accumulated over hundreds of years of farming practices of the ethnic groups in the highlands of Bat Xat district. Creativity and hard work are also shown in the unique traditional architecture, notably the Trinh Tuong house architecture of the Ha Nhi people with a square house with four pyramidal roofs, thatched roofs, containing knowledge about the ability to adapt to the cold nature of the highlands.

In addition, the ethnic communities of Bat Xat district preserve and pass on many unique traditional folk music materials with diverse melodies and instruments: Đan moi, Đan Oct o, Ken la, Nhi of the Ha Nhi people; Khen, Sao, Gay Sinh tien of the Mong people; Ken Pi le; Trong, chum choe of the Giay people; Bells, drums of the Dao people... In addition, the ethnic groups of Bat Xat also preserve and promote a number of typical traditional crafts such as: Silver carving of the Dao people; sewing, embroidery, weaving of the Mong, Dao, Giay, Ha Nhi people; weaving of the Ha Nhi people; rice wine brewing of the Dao people, forging of agricultural tools of the Mong people.
Speaking of the cultural characteristics of the Bat Xat ethnic community, we must also mention the highland markets. The Y Ty market is held every Saturday, mainly selling local products. The Muong Hum market is held every Sunday, a place for people of the Muong Hum commune to meet, exchange and trade agricultural products and consumer goods. At the market, visitors will experience many unique cultural features of the highlands.
The movement of the whole people uniting to build a cultural life in residential areas, the movement of building cultural families, cultural villages, and cultural agencies has developed extensively. Up to now, Bat Xat has had over 88% of households recognized as cultural families; 94% have achieved cultural villages and residential groups. The movement of culture, arts, physical education and sports has developed strongly, becoming an indispensable need in the spiritual life of the community.
Bat Xat district has been focusing on preserving and effectively promoting the traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities. From there, it has created a widespread influence in the community, contributing to the goal of making Bat Xat an attractive tourist destination in the Northwest region./.
