Mong Sen bridge connecting Noi Bai-Lao Cai highway to Sapa town

The Mong Sen Bridge, which began construction in early 2020, is a more than 600-meter-long viaduct that connects the foothill area to the top of the three-story slope, one of the most difficult, winding, and dangerous sections of the road from the top of the slope. With a total investment of nearly 500 billion VND, Lao Cai city to Sa Pa town.

Mong Sen Bridge has a bridge surface width of 14.5 meters, allowing for four lanes of traffic; the length of the three main spans is 132 meters, including 5 pillars and 2 abutments. The distance between the pedestal and the top of the bridge is more than 80 meters, making this the highest viaduct in Vietnam today. The bridge uses balanced cantilever technology and externally tensioned prestressed cable; this is the first time in Vietnam that a post-tensioned cable with external tension, tension in the entire bundle, including 22 strands, has been used for large bridges.

The project to connect Noi Bai - Lao Cai highway with Sa Pa town will contribute to improving the exploitation efficiency of Noi Bai - Lao Cai highway, promoting socio-economic development, ensuring national security. of the Northwest region in general and of Lao Cai province in particular. Meeting the increasing demand for transportation when a number of high-class tourism and resort projects in Sa Pa have been completed. In addition, the completed project will contribute to reducing the risk of traffic accidents on National Highway 4D, especially completely removing the black spots at the former "three-storey" slope, shortening the travel time from the city Lao Cai to Sapa town and vice versa.
