The industrial "picture" has many bright spots

In the first months of 2020, despite the negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Lao Cai industry still maintains reasonably good growth momentum, making an essential contribution to the province's overall economic development speed.

Businesses actively overcome difficulties

Coming to Tang Lo Loong Industrial Park, we witnessed the atmosphere of labor emulation, production in factories, factories, and workshops here. All workers are highly concentrated to do the assigned job well.

Production activities at Lao Cai Copper Branch.

At the Electrolysis Workshop of Lao Cai Copper Branch, the acid vapors from the storage tank emit an unpleasant odor. However, the workers equipped with enough specialized labor protection are still working hard. Deputy Director of Lao Cai Copper Branch said that all the factory's production line workshops are potentially risky, requiring each engineer and worker to strictly adhere to the labor discipline and ensure the ensure proper technical process, along with specialized labor protection equipment. Thanks to the Board of Directors' attention and drastic direction, plus the sense of responsibility of the employees. So past time, the unit has not allowed occupational unsafe and environmental incidents. The benefits and regimes of the employees are also fully implemented. The branch maintains jobs and stable incomes for nearly 540 employees with an average income of more than 10 million VND/person/month.

It is worth noting that, despite difficulties due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, Lao Cai Copper Branch still maintains a stable production, and most of the targets in the first eight months of 2020 are high compared to the year plan. Specifically, in 8 months, the branch produced 8,633 tons of copper cathode 99.95%, reaching 69.07% of the year plan. 30,439 tons of acid H2SO4, coming 67.64% of the project; 475 kg of gold bullion 99.9% Au, reaching 75.51% of the project; 480 kg of silver bars 99.9% Ag, going 69.17% of the plan; 2,000 tons of gypsum, reaching 75.42% of the project... The consumption target of products is from 60% to 71% of the annual plan.

Production and business activities of THHH Vietnam - China Minerals and Metallurgy Company, are also facing difficulties due to the steel market fluctuation. The price of steel billet plummeted, the consumption decreased, and the lack of consumption iron ore, leading to low cash flow. Also, the pressure to pay the state budget is massive. The granting of new credit packages from the Vietnam Bank for Industry and Trade (Viettinbank) is difficult, so its production and business have not achieved efficiency the set target...

Mr. Tran Trong Manh, Deputy General Director of Vietnam - China Minerals and Metallurgy Co., Ltd. said: Properly assessing the company's difficulties in production and business, the board of directors and departments in the company have made efforts to implement many solutions to remove, such as actively working with suppliers to stabilize raw materials for production; propose banks to extend credit limits and grant new credit limits during the year; coordinated with the functional units of the province to develop the mining license of Quy Xa mine on schedule; propose to the Provincial People's Council and People's Committee to pay a part of the debt from mining contributions in 2020, the rest is extended to the following years. Along with that, the company strives to control costs related to production and business and maximize production techniques and technology. With a series of above solutions, the company's production is still maintained. Since the beginning of the year, the company has produced nearly 280 thousand tons of steel billets, reaching almost 60% of the year plan and revenue of nearly VND 2,600 billion, reaching over 42% of the year plan; job, the income of more than 1,500 employees, is guaranteed.
Similarly, for many other industrial units, enterprises, and factories in industrial zones in the province, Thanks to the attention and guidance to remove difficulties from all levels, sectors, and efforts from intrinsic of the enterprise, production, and business activities are still maintained, ensuring the planned objectives, making an essential contribution to the development of the local industry.

Many positive signals

According to Mr. Do Truong Giang, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, in the early months of 2020, the “picture” of the Lao Cai industry still has many bright spots, processing industry, manufacturing maintains high growth, the mining industry decreased... In the eight months of 2020, the province's industrial production value reaches more than 24,500 billion VND, equaling 67.79% of the year plan, up nearly 15% over the same period in 2019. Specifically, the mining industry reached more than 1,588 billion VND, equaling 48.7% of the year plan, by 84.9% over the same period. The province's handicraft industry continues to develop, contributing to job creation, generating income for workers, and increasing local budget revenues. Many facilities have invested in expanding production scale, innovating technology and equipment, and improving product quality.

In addition to these results, the industry still faces difficulties, such as slow production and consumption of products by some enterprises, With an inventory value of more than VND 1,720 billion (inventories of apatite ore of all kinds are 1.74. million tons, 368 thousand tons of iron ore, 36 thousand tons of NPK, 29 thousand tons of magnetite, 17 thousand tons of DAP ...).

According to Mr. Do Truong Giang, to ensure the year target, the department coordinates with relevant departments, branches, and localities to solve business difficulties. In particular, to direct and accelerate the implementation of the project to expand and upgrade the capacity of Lao Cai Copper Factory. Besides, to encourage industrial production units and enterprises to invest in innovation of equipment and technology, step by step towards industrial development with pollution treatment, environmental protection, and public action.
